The Fall 2016 | Exhibition
As winter temperatures freeze, a blanket of snow completely transforms the Alpine landscape. A metamorphosis takes place annually, roads & walking tracks hidden, rocky peaks transformed to desert like panoramas.
For the tiniest of windows, thousands descend on the mountains for sport & recreation. They co-exist with ancient and tumultuous eco systems predating any human intervention.
Though the physical human presence or pursuit of sport itself is not the fascination here, fleeting evidences of these interactions are found. Infrastructure brought to the mountains & imposed upon the landscape for function, serve their intended purpose, yet form graphic compositions in their own right. There is an order & harmony here, captured within a photograph. Like a metaphor for photographic practice itself, and ones desire to document experience in tangible form, any footprint in the snow lasts only seconds, for viewer to bear witness. The visual landscape is constantly changing and the next storm approaching.
The seasons inevitably change & as the snow begins to melt, these images disappear once more, remaining dormant, waiting for the next seasons fall.
